Fred Segal Friendship Library

“If only our sages and scholars together could resolve to infuse peace with the same energy and inspiration that others have put into war.” - Elie Wiesel, AFNSWAS Honorary Council

In 2010, the first ever regional library dedicated to peace and wellness was opened in Neve Shalom/Wahat al-Salam, the “Oasis of Peace.” This innovative project serves as a resource and educational center for local and international academics, personnel from peace NGOs and others interested in the field of peace studies and education.

The Fred Segal Friendship Library is to become the only specialized library in the country focusing on peace and conflict resolution on an international scholarly level. Its collection will be multilingual and multidisciplinary, including resources from sociology, political science, psychology, history, and related legal issues.
The vision of Mr. Fred Segal has been the critical factor driving this project, enabling completion of the library building. The Library was inaugurated in Spring 2010.

Until now, there hasn’t been a formal library or educational center dedicated to peacebuilding and peace studies, where scholars, activists and others can find current and relevant resources, and meet to advance a peaceful future in the region.
