Each year, the American Friends of Neve Shalom/Wahat al-Salam contributes to the educational programs of the Oasis of Peace.
Money sent from the United States represents about one third of the money received by the Primary School. Through the USAID, the American Friends has also been able to raise major funding for the School for Peace “Advocates of Change” program; we also support women programs, youth encounters and various conferences promoting dialogue and coexistence. Also, smaller programs – like those of the Pluralistic Spiritual Center or the Youth Club – at Neve Shalom/Wahat al-Salam mostly rely on grants from the American Friends to be implemented, as no other friend association is able to fund them.
In the United States, funds are used for outreach projects such as tours with residents of the village: they visit local communities to raise awareness about the village and its programs.
Please note that the IRS modified its way to calculate operating expenses this year and that fundraising and administrative expenses now reach a higher amount for all nonprofits (25% of combined fundraising and administrative expenses is now considered the threshold for reasonable expenses). We remain committed to keep our expenses at the lowest to ensure that as much money as possible goes to the "Oasis of Peace."
